How to Keep Blonde Hair from Turning Yellow

Hair & Body Beauty Supply · October 19, 2026

Fresh blonde looks bright and cool, but over a few weeks it often drifts toward yellow or orange. This is called brassiness, and with the right routine you can keep it under control at home.

Why blonde hair turns yellow

How violet pigments work

On the color wheel, violet sits opposite yellow. Violet pigments deposit a small amount of purple on the hair, which cancels yellow and leaves a cooler, brighter blonde. This is called toning.

A toning routine for blonde hair

  1. Toning shampoo, 1–3 times a week. Use the Blue Keratin Blond Radiant Shampoo, which has a Blend of Violet Pigments. Alternate with a regular gentle shampoo on the other wash days so the hair does not turn lilac.
  2. Toning mask once a week. The Blond Radiant Mask neutralizes yellow and orange tones while conditioning. Leave it on longer for a stronger effect.
  3. Customize with a toning serum. Lumina Tint Hair is a violet-blue serum you can add to your own mask, shampoo or treatment, so you control the intensity.
  4. Leave-in and heat protection. Bleached hair is fragile. Finish with the Blond Radiant Leave-In Hair Reconstructor and always use a heat protectant before hot tools.

Keep bleached hair strong

Lightening weakens the hair, so toning alone is not enough. Professional services can use Acidic Bonding, a pH 2.5 stabilizer that helps close the cuticle after bleaching, and a weekly repair mask keeps the strands resilient. See our dry & damaged hair products.
